What are the prerequisites for applying to an IMA Program?
While the prerequisites vary by program, most require an interest in healthcare, the ability to travel internationally, and, in some cases, prior clinical or academic experience.
Take Note: Programs in South America requires at least two years of Spanish language experience.
How long do the programs last?
Program durations vary, ranging from 2 weeks to 6 months, depending on your preference and availability. Most pre-clinical candidates in East Africa will complete at least a four-week program, while candidates in Peru will typically complete a three-week program.
What is a typical day like in an IMA Program?
Most of the participants engage in the following activities such as:

Yes. Our programs including didactic experiences such as the Global Health Lecture Series and Clinical Simulations are conducted in English. Meanwhile, programs in South America require at least two years of Spanish language experience.

IMA provides comprehensive pre-departure orientation, on-site program coordination, housing arrangement, and 24/7 participant support both in the United States and at our placement sites.

Yes. Many IMA internships can count for academic or course credit, depending on your institution's policies. Participants are encouraged to coordinate with their academic advisors or the institution's registrar's office to ensure the program meets the required criteria.
