Here are the frequently asked questions about Financial Aid and Costs on IMA Internship Programs.


What is the cost of participating in an IMA Program?

IMA Program Fees include a majority of in-country expenses, such as the following:

  • Accommodations

  • Chef-prepared Meals

  • Transportation related to the placement

  • Hospital Fees

  • Travel Insurance

  • Unlimited WiFi access

These fees also contribute to supporting IMA's Global Humanitarian Initiatives.

Take Note: Travel expenses are not included.


Does IMA offer financial aid or scholarships?

IMA provides need-based scholarships and encourages participants to apply for external grants and funding opportunities. We also offer interest payment plan options. Please review our Funding Guide for further information.


What does the Program Fee include?

The fee typically covers accommodations, meals, program materials, orientation sessions, and on-ground support during your internship. You can find out more information about the Program Fees through this link.


Are payment plans available for Program Fees?

International Medical Aid offers flexible payment plans to help participants manage their program costs. Program Mentors are available to provide specific guidance on available payment plans for candidates' specific Program Dates.


Can I fundraise for my program expenses?

Absolutely! International Medical Aid provides guidance on Fundraising Strategies to help participants finance their programs. Many past interns have successfully fundraised part or all of their program costs.


Are Program Fees tax-deductible?

International Medical Aid is a federally registered 501(c) (3) private foundation in the United States, and contributions are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowable under the law.


Are IMA-branded scrubs required for interns?

Yes, all interns are required to purchase IMA-branded scrubs. You can purchase them during the enrollment process or at a later date, but please ensure that you acquire them at least 30 days before your Program Start Date.


When should I purchase my scrubs?

Scrubs must be purchased at least 30 days before the Program Start Date to meet program requirements. Scrubs bought during the enrollment process are available at a slight discount.


How can I connect with other interns?

We facilitate networking by sharing Intern Contact Information for candidates with similar Program Dates. This allows you to reach out and connect with peers who are participating around the same time.


Will I receive contact information for other interns?

Once your enrollment is confirmed and your Program Start Date is set, we will send you the contact details of other interns with similar program dates to encourage early networking and collaboration.
