What Should I Prepare for My Consultation?

Bring transcripts, resume, and any essay drafts to your IMA consultation for the most personalized guidance possible.

Written by Mark Jones

To make the most of your free 30-minute consultation with IMA, we recommend coming prepared with a few key materials. Having these on hand will help our admissions counselors provide personalized and insightful guidance tailored to your unique background and goals.

  • Academic Records
Bring a copy of your transcripts and MCAT score (if available). This allows us to assess your academic profile and help you explore realistic school options based on your performance. Note: Unofficial transcripts from your student portal are sufficient for the initial application

  • Essay Drafts
If you’ve already started your personal statement or any secondary essays, feel free to share those during the consultation. We can offer feedback and guidance to strengthen your writing and messaging.

  • Resume
Whether you’re a high school student or a college graduate, having a resume prepared helps us better understand your experiences and interests.

For high school students, your resume should include:

  • Contact information

  • School name, GPA, and expected graduation date

  • Relevant coursework (if applicable)

  • Extracurricular activities (clubs, sports, leadership roles)

  • Volunteer or work experience, with brief descriptions

  • Skills (technical, soft skills, language proficiency)

  • Awards or certifications

This information gives our team a clearer picture of who you are beyond academics and allows us to offer more comprehensive, strategic advice.
