CRNA/Pre-Anesthesiologist Assistant Internships

Written by Mark Jones

CRNAs' experiences take place in dynamic international healthcare settings, where they are mentored by a team of CRNAs, nurses, physicians, PAs, and other healthcare professionals. Through partnerships with an extensive public and private healthcare facility network, interns and volunteers contribute to improving the health of underserved communities while gaining invaluable hands-on experience.

We are deeply committed to meaningfully impacting underserved populations through medical clinics, public health education, first responder training, and first aid programs. Collaborating with local leaders, we develop ethical and sustainable initiatives that address the root causes of illness and disease, fostering healthier communities for the long term.

Overview

CRNA Interns collaborate with skilled nurse anesthetists and anesthesiologists in hospitals and surgical centers across the globe. They actively engage in different tasks such as:

  • Patient assessments.

  • Contribute to anesthesia planning and administration.

  • Assist in postoperative care.

Additionally, CRNA Interns observe and participate in a wide range of anesthetic procedures, gaining invaluable experience in the field. This program, designed in partnership with leading nurse anesthesia programs, blends hands-on clinical practice with comprehensive educational modules. We deepen their knowledge of anesthesia practices, sharpen their clinical abilities, and immerse themselves in diverse global healthcare settings.

As a non-profit, IMA reinvests in the communities we serve. We offer a structured environment supported by local and U.S.-based resources and comprehensive training on safety and eye care best practices. You can learn more about the reasons to join IMA in our global health initiatives.

CRNA Internship Program Philosophy

Through our CRNA Internships, participants gain hands-on exposure to specialized healthcare practices while addressing critical needs in underserved communities. IMA ensures every intern contributes meaningfully and safely while enjoying a structured, supportive, and rewarding global experience.

As a non-profit organization, IMA reinvests in every community we serve. We provide CRNA Interns with a professional and ethical environment that fosters clinical learning, cultural engagement, and meaningful service.

Our Clinical Experience

Our goal is achieved through an emphasis on hands-on learning. Interns shadow physicians and participate in clinical rotations, building a strong foundation in anesthesia and perioperative care. This direct involvement enables them to work closely with CRNAs, anesthesiologists, and healthcare teams to observe procedures and support patient care.

Our Cultural Competency

Cultural competency is fostered through language study and immersion experiences. Interns engage with local communities to better understand how cultural beliefs influence health practices, particularly in anesthesia and pain management.

Our Global Health Competency

By collaborating with local institutions and providers, interns develop a broader understanding of healthcare. Exposure to various international systems and public health strategies enhances their knowledge of global anesthesia practices and challenges.

Our Mentorship and Support

IMA’s experienced staff provides mentorship and guidance throughout your internship. From understanding local protocols to adjusting to life in a new country, our team can answer questions and offer support at every stage.
