Congratulations on completing your internship and officially becoming an IMA alumnus!
As part of your transition to alumni status, there are several important steps to complete. These ensure you remain eligible for alumni benefits such as recommendation letters, verification of clinical hours, and scholarship opportunities.
Intern Evaluation
You can review the International Medical Aid Intern Evaluation Form on our website. This document outlines the criteria on which your performance will be assessed. Your evaluation is based on feedback collected from your clinical supervisors and Program Mentors.
Standard Letter of Recommendation
To qualify, you must achieve marks of “Good” or higher in at least seven of the nine evaluation categories.
Highest-Level Recommendation
To qualify, you must achieve marks of “Excellent” in at least seven of the nine categories. This distinction is reserved for the top 10% of interns.
Letters of recommendation are prepared by IMA’s Medical Director in collaboration with the Board of Trustees.
Final Written Assignment
All interns seeking letters of recommendation, graduate school admissions counseling, or verification of clinical hours must complete a Final Written Assignment.
Prompt:
What have you learned from your internship experience with International Medical Aid, and how will you use this newfound knowledge and perspective in the future? Your response should describe how your experiences in East Africa have influenced your interest in pursuing a career in healthcare. Additionally, you may (but are not required to) discuss differences in healthcare delivery, political systems, cultural experiences, unique clinical cases observed, and notable patient interactions.
