What program locations are recommended for an upcoming college student during the summer?

Written by Mark Jones

Our flagship programs are offered in two locations:

  • Mombasa, Kenya East Africa

  • Cusco, Peru South America

Mombasa, Kenya East Africa

For most upcoming or current college students, especially those seeking broad clinical exposure and instruction in English, we typically recommend Mombasa, Kenya:

  • Kenya hosts our largest and longest running programs.

  • The program is conducted entirely in English, making it ideal for students who do not speak a second language.

  • Interns can rotate through multiple specialties, including surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, emergency medicine, and community outreach. This provides a comprehensive overview of clinical practice in a major teaching and referral hospital.

Cusco, Peru South America

Programs in Cusco, Peru are conducted in Spanish. Candidates must have at least two years of prior Spanish study or equivalent experience:

  • Peru placements focus primarily on primary care and community based specialties such as family medicine, pediatrics, women’s health, and preventive and community health initiatives.

  • This site is especially well suited for students who want to improve their medical Spanish, work closely with primary care teams, and gain experience in outpatient and community health settings.
